Novaa LightPad
Red + Near-Infrared Therapy for Muscle Pain Relief
You Were Told Foam Rolling Heals Damaged Muscle Tissue. That Myth Is Why I Switched to Red Light Therapy.
I rolled my quads raw after every session and called it relief. It wasn't.
My Quads Never Stopped Hurting
Sled Push, Sled Pull, Sandbag Lunges, Wall Balls. Four of the eight Hyrox stations, and every one of them loads the same muscle group: my quads. Then the race sends you straight into another kilometer of running on those same legs, station after station, with nothing in between.
Training for it works the same way. I'd finish a heavy block and go straight to the foam roller, rolling my quads to ease the soreness, sometimes until it genuinely hurt. I believed the harder it hurt, the more it was easing the pain underneath. That's what everyone tells you foam rolling does.

My top product from Novaalab is the Knee Ultra. This is a MUST for me to use everyday. Since I started to use the I started to use theknee ultra — my knee pain is practically non existent.
I'd spent months trusting a routine because it hurt enough to feel productive, without ever checking whether it did anything past the surface.
The soreness never actually cleared, it just got familiar enough that I stopped counting it as a problem. I didn't know yet what would actually change that.
What I Got Wrong About Easing the Pain
For over a year, the only thing I did about the pain was one tool: a foam roller, used daily, used hard. I never questioned it, because everyone else training for Hyrox does the same thing. Rolling your quads until they burn gets treated like part of the sport, not a routine worth checking.
My training partner had switched months earlier and stopped rolling as frequently as I do.
She said the pressure never did what I thought it did, it just felt like effort. What actually eased her pain was something that worked underneath the muscle, not on top of it.
That's when I looked into the LightPad. It uses red and near-infrared light that reaches roughly two inches into the muscle, past the point any foam roller or massage gun can actually touch the pain.

None of it would have mattered if my quads hadn't actually felt different.
- Reduces the inflammation that builds up after Sled Push, Sled Pull, and Sandbag Lunges
- Supports blood flow to the muscle tissue that's actually sore, not just the surface
- Fits into a 15 to 20 minute post-session routine, no extra time carved out
So I put the foam roller away and gave this a real block to prove itself against the pain, not just the workload. Here's what actually changed.
What Changed Once I Actually Started Treating the Pain
The first week, nothing felt different. By the third week, the ache in my quads was gone by the next morning instead of lingering for days. Training got easier too, but that was the effect, not the point. What mattered was that my legs stopped hurting.
I stopped timing my training blocks around how sore my legs were. That was the first time I'd actually done something about the pain, instead of just waiting it out.
Three months in, the pattern held through an entire training block, not just one good week. The ache that used to define my legs after every session just wasn't there anymore.
My husband is a power lifter. He used the pad on a pulled calf muscle and torn bicep. Not only does it relieve pain from soreness but also decreases recovery time and improve healing for both strained and torn muscles.
This pad has been major component to my healthcare and comfort for use after working out or just waking up stiff and sore.
This is a definite must in helping with recovery after sports, an injury, or simple sore muscles. I have used it for several years and about every other day.
Here's what that actually looked like. Same training block, different pattern:
| Before | After |
|---|---|
| Foam rolled daily, quads still ached | LightPad after training, ache gone by morning |
| Started Sled Push on legs still sore | Started Sled Push on legs that didn't hurt |
| Soreness treated as normal, pushed through | Soreness cleared within a day |
| A routine that hurt, not helped | 15 minutes that actually helped |
| Pressure on the muscle felt like relief | Relief reached the muscle, not just the surface |
What I Was Skeptical About
“I already foam roll, isn't that basically the same thing?”
That's what I thought too, until I actually looked at what foam rolling does. It moves fluid around and dulls the nerve for a few minutes. It never touches the muscle tissue that Sled Push, Sled Pull, and Sandbag Lunges actually damage. This works underneath that, not on top of it.
“Quads are my biggest muscle group, can light really reach deep enough to matter?”
I asked the same thing. The LightPad's red and near-infrared light reaches roughly two inches into the tissue, enough to reach the muscle fibers doing the work, not just the skin on top of them.
“Isn't this just one more thing to add after training when I'm already exhausted?”
It doesn't ask for more effort. It straps on and runs while I'm already stretching or packing up my bag. It replaced the foam roller in my routine, it didn't add to it.

Why Foam Rolling Never Reached the Damage
Sled Push, Sled Pull, Sandbag Lunges, and every kilometer of running between them create real micro-tears in the muscle tissue and burn through cellular energy. Foam rolling works on the surface, on nerve signal. It was never built to reach the tissue underneath, no matter how hard I pressed.
Nobody explained the difference to me before. Pain relief isn't just about calming a muscle down, it's about reaching the tissue that actually took the load.
Think of a foam roller as something that works on what your hands can reach. Red and near-infrared light works on what your hands can't, feeding the cells doing the actual repair the energy (ATP) they need to rebuild faster. That's the difference between calming a muscle down and repairing it.
Targeted photobiomodulation accelerates lymph drainage.
The same wavelengths used in the LightPad were shown to speed up muscle tissue repair in clinical research.
Leading to faster recovery while reducing the risk of fatigue-related injuries.
Most people use it for 15 to 20 minutes right after training, on whatever took the most load that day. Consistent use over two to three weeks is typically when it starts showing up as less soreness carried into the next session, not the first one.
Ease the Pain Foam Rolling Couldn't Touch
The same routine that finally eased the pain in my quads: 15 to 20 minutes after every session, on whatever took the most load that day.
- Eases post-session soreness by reducing inflammation
- Enhances blood flow to help ease muscle pain
- Portable, use it at home, the box, or on travel
- Helps prevent re-injury and chronic soreness
